Labs and supplements

Order labs and recommend supplements from the visit Dispensary, and keep orders and results attached to the patient chart.

Labs and supplements are ordered from inside a visit, in the Dispensary section of the visit sidebar. Both keep the order attached to the patient, so results and recommendations live alongside the rest of the chart.

Ordering labs

Open a visit and go to Lab Orders in the Dispensary section.

When nothing is ordered it explains the two routes: "Generate a lab requisition PDF to send to a destination lab, or order through Fullscript." The Order labs menu offers:

  • Lab Requisition — "generate a downloadable PDF order". You print or fax it to the destination lab.
  • Order via Fullscript — "open the Fullscript catalog" to order electronically.

The feature cards summarise what you get: Lab requisitions (download, print, or fax), Results timeline (everything in one place), Printable PDFs (downloadable requisition orders), and Fullscript labs (order through the app).

Choose the route that matches the lab. A destination lab that takes paper wants the requisition PDF; electronic ordering through Fullscript is faster where it's supported. Either way the order stays on the patient record, so the result comes back to the right chart.

Lab reports and results

Lab Reports, above Lab Orders in the sidebar, is where results land. The Results timeline brings values together over time, so a trending marker — a cholesterol or a vitamin D level across visits — reads as a line rather than scattered numbers. Observations charted from results carry LOINC codes, which is what lets them trend correctly (see Creating a patient record).

Supplements

Go to Supplements in the same Dispensary section.

1Supplements in the visit sidebar2Open Fullscript

The supplement dispensary runs through Fullscript. Open Fullscript launches the catalog, where you build a protocol and recommend products to the patient. The recommendation attaches to the visit, and the patient orders through Fullscript.

Keep supplement recommendations in the record rather than telling a patient verbally. A recommendation that's charted shows up on the patient's summary under Recommendations, so the next clinician sees what was advised and the patient has it in writing.

The Fullscript connection

Both Fullscript labs and Fullscript supplements depend on your practice being connected to Fullscript, set up under Settings → Connect Fullscript ("sync supplement protocols and orders"). Without it, the Fullscript routes here won't work, though the PDF lab requisition still will.
