Spotlight search

Spotlight is Ona's command palette — one search box that finds records, opens pages, and runs actions. Once you know it's there, it's the fastest way to get anywhere.

Opening Spotlight

Open it from the search icon at the top of the app. It appears as a search box over the current screen.

The placeholder says exactly what it covers: "Search patients, visits, templates, pages, and commands…"

What it searches

Spotlight spans both things and actions:

• Records — patients, visits, templates, and other content. Start typing a patient's name to jump straight to their record, or a template's name to open it.
• Pages — every section of the app: Dashboard, Patients, Visits, Team Calendars, and so on. This is navigation without the sidebar.
• Commands — actions you can run directly: Add new visit, Create patient, Share feedback. The command executes from the search box, so you can start a new visit without first navigating to the Visits page.

Before you type, it shows the common commands and pages as a starting menu; as you type, results narrow across all categories.

Why use it

The sidebar is fine for browsing, but Spotlight is faster for the things you do repeatedly. Rather than Patients → search → click, you open Spotlight and type the name. Rather than Visits → Add New Visit, you open Spotlight and run the command. For anyone who works in Ona all day, it's the difference between two or three clicks and one.

Get in the habit of reaching for Spotlight first when you know what you want. It's quickest precisely when you already have a name or an action in mind — which, during a working day, is most of the time.

Related

Spotlight finds and navigates; it doesn't answer questions. For "tell me about this patient" rather than "take me to this patient," use Ona Assistant (see Ona Assistant) — the two are complementary. Spotlight gets you to the record; the Assistant reasons over it.
