Recommending supplements

The supplement dispensary runs through Fullscript. You build the protocol in Fullscript's catalog, the recommendation is attached to the patient in Ona, and the patient orders through Fullscript. Reusable supplement templates are managed from Library → Supplements and can be applied to patients later.

How do I recommend supplements?

In the left sidebar, click Patients, then click the patient's name. In the patient chart, under Dispensary, click Supplements. You can also click Visits in the left sidebar, click the visit, then click Supplements under Dispensary in the visit sidebar.

Open Fullscript launches the catalog, where you build a protocol and recommend products to the patient.

Keep supplement recommendations in the record, not only in conversation with the patient. A charted recommendation shows up on the patient's summary under Recommendations. The next clinician sees what was advised, and the patient has it in writing.

How do I create a supplement template?

In the left sidebar, click Library, then click Supplements in the Library menu. Use templates when your team recommends the same group of supplements often and wants to chart them on a patient in one step.

1. Select New template.
2. Enter the template name.
3. Use When to use for internal guidance. This text is shown when choosing a template and is not copied onto a patient's chart.
4. Select Add supplement.
5. Search for a product or ingredient, or enter a custom supplement, then select Add.
6. Add dose, unit, frequency, instructions or a note if needed.
7. Select Create template.

The template is saved and can be applied from any patient's Supplements page.

How do I manage supplement templates?

In the left sidebar, click Library, then click Supplements in the Library menu. Each template appears as a card with its supplements and actions.

1. Select a template card to edit it.
2. Open the template's actions menu for more options.
3. Select Duplicate to create a copy.
4. Select Retire to hide an active template when applying a template, or Restore to put a retired template back in the template picker.
5. Select Delete to remove the template, then select Delete again to confirm.

Deleting a template removes it from the library. Supplements already charted from it stay on those patients' charts.

How do I import a starter template from the Library?

In the left sidebar, click Library, then click Supplements in the Library menu. The Library area contains starter templates you can preview, import and then adjust for your practice.

1. Use the Library search or category chips to find a starter template.
2. Select Preview to review its supplements, doses, instructions, notes and references.
3. Select Import.
4. Open the imported template and review its supplements before using it.

After a starter template is imported, its card shows Open. In the preview dialog, Open template opens your practice's copy.

The Fullscript connection

The patient Supplements page and the Library → Supplements template page appear once an Owner or Admin turns on Supplements under Dispensary. To get there, click Settings at the bottom of the left sidebar, then click Supplements under Dispensary in the settings menu. Recommending through Fullscript also needs the practice connected to Fullscript. An Owner or Admin sets it up by clicking Settings at the bottom of the left sidebar, then clicking Fullscript under Dispensary in the settings menu and signing in to the practice's Fullscript practitioner account. The same connection is used for ordering labs through Fullscript.

Fullscript matches patients by email. If a patient has no email on their record, their recommendations won't sync to Ona.
