Seeing what's new in Ona
Use Dashboard to review new release announcements, change the dashboard time range, and customize your desktop widget layout.
Dashboard is your home base in Ona. On desktop, it shows a customizable grid of widgets. On phones and smaller screens, it shows a mobile schedule view instead of the widget grid.
New-release announcements appear in the left sidebar when there is an unseen Ona update for you.
How do I see what's new in Ona?
Use the left sidebar from anywhere in the dashboard. When a new Ona release is available for you, a New announcement appears near the bottom of the sidebar.
- Use the left sidebar from anywhere in Ona, then look near the bottom for the New release announcement.
- Hover over or focus the announcement if the sidebar is expanded.
- Select the announcement.
The release note opens in a new browser tab. Ona marks the announcement as seen for you.
If your sidebar is collapsed, the announcement appears as a compact New chip. Select the chip to open the release note.
How do I dismiss a release announcement?
Dismiss a release announcement from the expanded left sidebar when you do not need to read it now.
- In the left sidebar, find the New release announcement near the bottom.
- Hover over or focus the announcement if needed.
- Select Dismiss.
The announcement is hidden and marked as seen for you. In the collapsed sidebar, open the announcement instead; the compact chip does not show Dismiss.
How do I use Dashboard?
Open Dashboard from the left sidebar: click Dashboard. Dashboard greets you by name and shows either your desktop widget grid or the mobile schedule view, depending on screen size.
On desktop, dashboard widgets are shaped by your role and by the features enabled for your organization. Owners and admins see the administrative dashboard surface. Staff see the operational dashboard without Settings access. Clinicians see a dashboard scoped to their own patients and visits.
On mobile, Dashboard focuses on your schedule. It includes upcoming visits from today forward and recently finished visits behind Past.
How do I change the dashboard time range?
Change the time range on Dashboard when you want reporting widgets to summarize a different window. Schedule, inbox and task-style widgets do not use this range.
- In the left sidebar, click Dashboard.
- In the dashboard header, choose 1D, 7D, 30D, 90D or 12M.
Widgets that aggregate over time update to the selected range. The selected range stays selected when you refresh the page.
How do I customize my desktop dashboard?
Customize Dashboard on desktop when you want your widget grid to match how you work. Changes stay in a draft until you select Done.
- In the left sidebar, click Dashboard.
- Select Customize.
- Drag widgets to reorder them.
- Select Remove widget to take a widget off the dashboard, or use the lower-right resize handle to change its size.
- Select Done.
Your dashboard layout saves for your member account. Select Cancel instead to leave edit mode without saving.
How do I add a dashboard widget?
Add widgets from Dashboard on desktop. The catalog only shows widgets available for your role and your organization's enabled features.
- In the left sidebar, click Dashboard.
- Select Customize.
- Select Add widget.
- Use Search widgets or the category filters to find the widget.
- Drag the widget card onto the dashboard.
- Select Done.
The widget is added to your draft layout. It is saved after you select Done. A widget can appear more than once.
How do I reset my dashboard layout?
Reset Dashboard on desktop when you want to return to the default layout for your role.
- In the left sidebar, click Dashboard.
- Select Customize.
- Select Reset.
- Select Done.
If you save the default layout, Ona treats it as your standard dashboard instead of a custom layout.
What can't I do here?
Dashboard home has a few limits:
- The customizable widget grid is for desktop screens. On smaller screens, Ona shows the mobile schedule view instead.
- You cannot add more widgets after the dashboard reaches its widget limit.
- You can only add widgets available to your role and enabled organization features.
- Staff and clinicians do not get administrative Settings access from Dashboard.
- The compact New release chip in a collapsed sidebar can be opened, but it does not show Dismiss.
Common questions
Why is my dashboard different from another team member's?
Your dashboard is shaped by your roles and enabled organization features. Owners and admins get the administrative surface, staff get the operational surface without Settings access, and clinicians get a dashboard scoped to their own patients and visits.
Does changing the time range affect every widget?
No. The time range affects widgets that summarize activity over time. Widgets shaped around current work, such as schedule, inbox or tasks, ignore it.
Can I have the same widget more than once?
Yes. The widget catalog shows when a widget is already on the dashboard, but it does not block you from adding another copy.
What happens if I open a release announcement?
The release note opens in a new browser tab and the announcement is marked as seen for you.
Can I customize Dashboard on my phone?
No. The customizable widget grid is for desktop screens. On smaller screens, Dashboard shows the mobile schedule view.
