Opening panels side by side

Split view is available in the dashboard on desktop-sized screens. It docks supported panels to the right edge of Ona so the main page stays visible beside them.

How do I open a panel side by side?

In the left sidebar, click Patients, then select the patient you want to work with. From the patient chart, open a supported panel, such as patient information. On a desktop-sized screen, Ona docks that panel on the right instead of covering the page.

1. In the left sidebar, click Patients.
2. Select the patient you want to work with.
3. Open a supported panel from the patient chart.
4. Continue working in the main chart while the panel stays open on the right.

The main page narrows to make room for the panel. If you open another supported panel, it replaces the current one in the same right-side space.

How do I close a split-view panel?

In the left sidebar, click Patients, then select the patient you want to work with. From the patient chart, open a supported panel. Close the right-side panel when you want the main page to return to its full width.

1. Find the panel on the right side of the dashboard.
2. Select Close panel in the panel header.

The panel closes and the main workspace returns to its full width. You can also press Escape when you are not typing in an editable field. If a menu or dialog inside the panel is open, Escape closes that first.

How do I resize the split-view panel?

In the left sidebar, click Patients, then select the patient you want to work with. From the patient chart, open a supported panel. Resize the panel when you need more room for the panel content or more room for the page behind it. The resize handle is on the left edge of the right-side panel.

1. Open a supported panel in split view.
2. Move your pointer to the panel’s left edge until the resize cursor appears.
3. Drag left to make the panel wider, or right to make it narrower.
4. Release the pointer when the panel is the width you want.

Ona keeps the panel between 400 and 600 pixels wide. The width is saved in your browser and used the next time you open split view. If browser storage is unavailable, Ona uses the default width.

You can also focus the resize handle and use ← or → to adjust the width.

Why did split view close or change on a smaller screen?

Open a patient (in the left sidebar, click Patients, then select the patient you want to work with) and open a supported panel from the patient chart. Split view is a desktop layout. When the dashboard becomes narrower than a desktop-sized screen, Ona closes the docked panel. Supported features can then use their smaller-screen layout instead.

This can happen when you:

• Resize your browser window.
• Move Ona to a narrow split-screen window.
• Use a tablet or phone-sized viewport.

The panel closing during a screen-size change does not change the patient record. Reopen the panel after returning to a desktop-sized window.

What can't I do here?

Open a patient (in the left sidebar, click Patients, then select the patient you want to work with) and open a supported panel from the patient chart. Split view has a few layout limits:

• Split view is not available on smaller screens.
• You cannot make the panel narrower than 400 pixels or wider than 600 pixels.
• Escape does not close the panel while you are typing in an editable field.
• Only one split-view panel is active at a time. Opening a different panel replaces the current one.

Common questions

Can every team member use split view?

Split view itself is available to owners, admins, staff and clinicians in the dashboard when they open a supported panel from a place they can access. What you can open still depends on your access to that page or patient record.

Does split view change patient data?

No. Opening, closing or resizing split view only changes your workspace layout. Any changes to patient data happen through the forms and actions inside the panel or chart.

Why does the panel sometimes open at the same width as before?

Ona saves your last split-view width in your browser. The next supported panel opens at that saved width.

Can I keep two panels open at once?

No. The dashboard has one right-side split-view area. Opening another supported panel replaces the panel that is already open.

Can I use split view on mobile?

No. Split view is not available on smaller screens. Supported panels use their smaller-screen layout instead.
